Bot and removal requests
What this site does, how it does it, and how to ask to be removed
What we do
The Outside View is a referral service: it points its readers to the articles that the international press devotes to the countries we follow (Maghreb, Middle East, Latin America, Central America). For each article we show the headline as the outlet published it (or an English translation of it), the outlet's name, the preview image published by the outlet itself (loaded from its own server, credited “Photo: outlet name”), and a link to the article on the publisher's site. A click on the headline or the image leads to the outlet's page. We copy neither the text of the articles nor their images.
Our bot
- It identifies itself as
OutsideViewBot/0.1, with a link to this page. - It reads each site's
robots.txtand does not fetch pages that it forbids to our bot. - It reads only the head of the page (title, description, preview image), never the body of the article.
- It runs every six hours, with a pause of at least one second between two requests.
- Articles are discovered through Google News' public feed.
Removal request
Do you represent an outlet or hold rights? Tell us what you want removed. An accepted request immediately removes the outlet from the site (articles, images, headlines) and the bot no longer visits it. You can also write to contact@outsideview.news.
